Details of Wisbech Plume Plotter

This page should be read in conjunction with How Plume Plotter Works. It provides more details specific to the Wisbech version of Plume Plotter.

Stacks and buildings

Buildings are not included in the model because no details are known yet, and the stack is so high that the buildings are unlikely to affect the plume.

Stack measurements

The stack location is taken from [1] and the other values are from the SERC incinerator:

• Stack location: 52.65025,0.1506436.
• Stack height: 95 m.
• Stack diameter: 3.15 m.
• Stack gas exit velocity: 15 m/s.
• Stack gas temperature: 140 °C.

The following values are used for albedo, Bowen ratio and roughness length:

• Albedo: 0.2.
• Bowen ratio: 1.
• Roughness length: 0.2.

The urban option of AERMOD is used, with an urban population of 34000 and urban roughness length of 1 m.

Emissions

The emission rates of pollutants are the actual historical emission rates from the SERC incinerator during 2019, calculated by averaging the quantities emitted over the whole year:

The background levels of pollutants are taken from the proposal for the Waterbeach incinerator:

Weather data

Weather data is taken from METAR reports from a local airport: Marham.

Upper air data is the latest reported by the Nottingham upper air station.
